Elective Orthopaedic Care
Arthritis of the hip joint results in constant pain in the groin, thigh and occasionally the knee. It causes stiffness leading to decreased movement affecting activities of daily living (inability to wear socks & shoes, inability to cut toe nails, difficulty getting in & out of chairs and cars), therefore, one’s quality of life.
Hip replacement surgery will alleviate the pain; improve the stiffness, thereby returning your quality of life to pre-arthritis levels.
Arthritis of the knee joint results in knee pain, deformity of the knee (advanced cases) and stiffness leading to decreased quality of life.
The management of knee arthritis includes painkillers, injections into knee joint, braces. Surgical procedures include arthroscopy (key-hole surgery) Osteotomies, Knee replacement procedures.
Pain in the forefoot (great toe and lesser toes) could be casued by conditions like – Bunions, Arthritis of the Great Toe, Claw toes and Morton’s neuromas.
The initial consultation would include clinical assessment, x-rays, trial of footwear modifications, hallux valgus braces, and injections. Surgical interventions like Osteotomies, Fusion are offered when the conservative measures fail.
Trauma and Fracture

Trauma and fracture care is provided at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. Simple fractures like greenstick (children’s buckle fractures); undisplaced fractures are managed with Plaster casts. Displaced fractures and fractures around the joints are managed surgically as per patient’s need and the severity of the fracture.
I have a special interest in hip fractures, Peri-prosthetic fractures and Peri-articular fractures. Spinal fractures are referred to the National Spinal Unit in Mater Hospital, Dublin. Pelvic and Acetabular fractures are referred to the National Pelvic and Acetabular unit in AMNCH, Tallaght, Dublin.
Medico-Legal Reports
Thorough and comprehensive medical reports for personal injuries are provided upon request. The report is typically based on the personal injuries board format. Appointments can be arranged by contacting my medico-legal secretary at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.
The consultation would include a comprehensive summary of the mode of injury, investigations performed, treatment offered, physiotherapy involved, length of time-off work, the disabilities that the injury had caused, affect on activities of daily living and the quality of life.
